Pretty much this.Īlan Wake, you play it for the story, it's almost like watching a movie at times. At least it makes you think every once in a while, and it doesn't overstay its welcome like Alan wake does. I found Resident Evil a lot more engaging. The only thing that sets it apart from other games in the genre is the Stephen King/Twin Peaks vibe the game has. Just follow the marker and activate the thing, then follow the new marker so you can find the thing to activate the other thing, ad infinitum. There's not much enemy variety, and the game never gives you any scenarios where you actually have to think about what you're doing. There's only so much running through dark woods and mindlessly dodging copy-paste enemies you can do before it becomes stale. Around the halfway mark I was rushing through on auto pilot just to get it over with. Originally posted by Spawk:I don't think Alan Wake is a terrible game, but I thought it was a chore to get through. ![]() I hope someone remakes the horrible backgrounds somehow and releases them as a mod. If you don't mind the mindblowing high-spec for this game that came out 13 years ago where the only models rendered are your character and the enemies, while backgrounds being smudged and inconsistent, then go for it. It's also a different game with different gameplay elements. ![]() It has that Twin Peaks vibe to it, but it isn't horror. The ones that have the original assets look gorgeus IMO, but that's only like 30% of the backgrounds compared to the rest.Īnd Alan Wake, while good, is not a better game. ![]() Even i could do that and i bet i would have done a better job too. If they lost some of their original assets, they should made new ones from sctratch, not upscale the old ones with horrible photoshop filters. They are already using a zoom feature for the 16:9, so 16:10 should be even easier. And there is no 16:10 support for whatever reason. The game supports 4:3 ratio for backgrounds, but doesn't support 4:3 ratio for menus, how stupid is that? So what, you should play the game with black bars around? Hell no. And the game needs hell of a specs to get 60 FPS where the only visible 3D models are your character/enemies/item box/weapons. Hell, one room is even rendered in 3D while the rest is just pre-rendedred backgrounds. I had the pleasure to replay the game on my friends PC recently, and it doesn't even come close to the original version on a proper display. Some backgrounds look amazing, some look bad, and the others look downright horrible. They did a horrible job with this remastering. Get the GC/WII version of the game if you have the consoles with a proper SDTV.
